Cervical Disc Bulges or Cervical Disc Herniation
Pain or numbness that often travels into the extremities
Cervical Disc Herniations/Bulges can also present in rear-end collisions as the forces that propel the body forwards while the head lags behind in extension causes extreme stress on the surrounding ligaments are the disc. As the head then tries to catch up to the body, we undergo another severe load into flexion putting great pressure on the disc. If a disc herniates or leaks through the surrounding tissue, it can cause anything from localized pain, to pain referring down a nerve pathway into the extremities, with potential to cause numbness, tingling, and or weakness. Loss of motor strength is indeicative of severe pathology, and you need immediate help.
